Tomás Pelayo-Benedet

My work sits at the intersection of artificial intelligence and cybersecurity. I’m a Ph.D. candidate at the University of Zaragoza, supervised by Ricardo J. Rodriguez within the reversea.me team, where I investigate how Machine Learning models and Large Language Models can be applied to real-world security problems, from detecting algorithmically generated domains (AGDs) to understanding what happens inside compiled binaries. On the binary analysis side, I collaborated with Prof. Dr. Kevin Borgolte at Ruhr University Bochum, studying how intermediate representations affect LLM-based decompilation. Alongside my research, I also teach practical sessions for undergraduate engineering courses at the University of Zaragoza.

Outside academia, I co-founded JnT Studios with Juanjo Ruiz Borao, a side project where we build custom software for small businesses and develop our own tools in our spare time. In parallel, I’m pursuing an MBA at the International University of La Rioja, because building something real requires more than good algorithms.

Before the Ph.D., I spent nearly two years at Teltronic SAU as a cybersecurity engineer, leading strategy and compliance for LTE product lines. I hold a B.Sc. in Computer Science from the University of Zaragoza (graduated with honors in AI) and an M.Sc. in Cybersecurity Research from the University of León.

Away from screens, I play bassoon, studied at the Conservatorio Profesional de Música de Zaragoza and currently first bassoon at the Zaragoza City Hall band. I’m drawn to the mountains, and when I’m not hiking the Pyrenees I’m usually running, bouldering, or rowing with the first team at Os’Nabaters in the Men’s Eight.
